And now, because it's been so long, I will bitch a little about not getting enough sleep.

I've been trying. Trying hard. And I got a really good, "healthy" amount last night. So why was I feeling like roadkill all day? My eyeballs felt like dry-roasted nuts. I was desperately sleepy to the point of poor motor function all day long. It was painful, people, painful.

Is it a cumulative effect? One night of eight hours does not make up for all the nights before it with not-quite-enough?

It's something I've noticed: eight hours of sleep is a bad number for me. If I get six or even four, I feel better the next day than if I'd gotten eight. Nine is optimal; at nine I wake up naturally feeling refreshed and alert. But I never get nine. I try, but I can't pull it off.
